Birdie's Bio

Birdie's Playhouse is run & taught by BIRDIE MENDOZA, also known as Michele Moreno www.michelemoreno.net who has been singing since her early days in the nest. She was the only Latina RAY CHARLES backup singer in history and has sung on numerous TV & film scores, including an episode of HBO's Six Feet Under. She also fronts a Jazz / Latin band www.birdiemendoza.com that plays for grownup special events all over Los Angeles & has enjoyed clients ranging from the Ritz to ABC News to Dancing with the Stars.

In the 90s, Birdie taught science concepts through interactive musical theater at the Lawrence Hall of Science at UC Berkeley. As a member of their "Science Discovery Theatre," she starred as Dorothy in "The Wizard of Odds," and presented bubble festivals at pre-schools and K-8 schools all over the Bay Area.

In Brisbane, Australia she taught jazz vocal improvisation as a private coach and in Los Angeles, she briefly substitute taught for two local Music Together programs.

She has performed all over the world as a backup and lead singer -- click here for a full list of credits -- and in 2007 released her grownup original music CD Plastic Garden. She is also a budding actress and has a degree in Modern Thought and Literature from Stanford University. As Michele Moreno, she recently composed children's music for the award-winning DVD Funky Monkey Music Time. Check out her song "Music is Everywhere," with adorable animation below.
